What to expect

Your first session

A first session is 60 minutes. It is a conversation, not a test.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Before you come

You get your fee in writing, and a link to the intake forms on my own portal. Please do not send medical details through this website.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The first conversation

We talk about what you want to be able to do again, what you have tried, and what you would like to leave alone for now. You do not have to tell your whole story.

  3. 03

    Step 3: How exposure works

I explain the method, what it asks of you and what it can stir up, and then you decide whether to start. Nothing scary happens in this session.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Before you leave

We agree a first small step to try, how often to meet, and a plan for the week. I answer questions about fees and cancellation.

By video

If we meet by video

Video visits are for clients who are in Missouri when we meet.

I am licensed in Missouri. Choose a room where you will not be interrupted. If it helps, keep your camera off for the first few sessions. I will send a link before each visit, and we agree on a plan if the connection drops.

  • A private space, with headphones if you like

  • Camera on or off, as you prefer

  • A phone call if the video fails

Questions about the first visit

Do I have to do an exposure in the first session?

No. The first session is for talking and planning. We try a first step in a later session, once you have agreed to it.

Can someone come with me?

Yes, for the first conversation if you would like. We decide together whether to include them later.

What should I have ready?

A list of what you would like to be able to do again, and any questions about how therapy works.

Ready to set up a first session?

Write a few general lines, and I will reply within two working days.
