Frequently asked questions
Do you take my insurance?
I am out of network, so I don't bill insurance plans directly. Many PPO plans pay back part of an out-of-network fee, and I send a monthly receipt for you to submit. Your plan decides what it pays. I don't bill Medicare or Medicaid.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of your care before you start. I give you one in writing. If a bill comes to $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
What is a superbill, and how do I use it?
A superbill is an itemized receipt I send each month, which you can submit to your plan. It may pay back part of the fee. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Your plan decides whether to pay, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.
How are fees set, and when do I hear mine?
The fee follows the length of the session, and I give you yours in writing before we start. You pay by card at the end of each session. The fees page explains the rest.
Can I use an HSA or FSA card?
Usually, yes. Check with your plan administrator, since plans differ.
What happens in the first session?
We talk about what you want to be able to do again, I explain how exposure therapy works and what it asks of you, and we agree what to try first. You do not have to face anything in the first session.
How often, and for how long?
Sessions are 50 minutes. Many people start weekly, and I set the pace with you. I cannot promise a number of sessions.
Are you licensed where I live?
I am licensed in Missouri. For video visits, you need to be in Missouri during the session. I cannot see clients who are in other states.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time, or call 911 in an emergency. This website and my messages are not monitored around the clock.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What you tell me stays between us, with limits the law sets: a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, and a court order. I explain these at the first session. I keep your records private and share them only as the law allows.
Can you see my teen?
I see adults, 18 and older. If you are looking for care for a teen, write to me and I will help you find a practice that does.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session, by email or text.
Something else?
Write to me, and I will reply within two working days.
