How fees work

How paying for therapy works here, in the order people tend to ask.

  • Insurance we work with

I am out of network, so I don't bill insurance plans directly. Many PPO plans pay back part of the fee for out-of-network visits, and I give you what you need to ask your plan. I don't bill Medicare or Medicaid.

    • Out of network

    • Most PPO plans may pay back part of a visit

    • Medicare and Medicaid are not billed

  • If you pay yourself

You get your fee in writing before we meet, and it is the same for every session of the same length. A first session is 60 minutes, a usual one 50 and an extended one 80, and the fee follows the length. You pay by card at the end of each session, with no contract and nothing in advance. I hold a limited number of reduced-fee sessions, so ask when you write. HSA and FSA cards usually work. I ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session.

    • Fee in writing before the first session

    • A limited number of reduced-fee sessions

    • 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session

  • Receipts for reimbursement

I can send an itemized receipt each month, called a superbill, to whoever pays. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. The plan decides whether to pay you back, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of your care before you start, and I give you one in writing in advance. If a bill comes to $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

Before the first session we go over your out-of-network benefits together, and I tell you what to ask your plan. I can't promise what a plan will pay.

Questions about cost?

Ask before you book. I will go through your plan with you and put your fee in writing.
